Adele, Ed Sheeran Nominated In 2022 Brits Awards

Adele, Ed Sheeran, Dave, and Little Simz dominate nominations for the 2022 gender-neutral Brit Awards, with four nods each.

The Brits Awards had earlier scrapped male and female categories for solo and best international artists. The gendered categories have been replaced with gender-neutral categories: artist of the year and international artist of the year.

Nominations for the 2022 Brit Awards were announced on Dec 18 after an hour-long TV special, The Brits Are Coming, which aired on ITV and ITV Hub.

While male artists dominated the nominations, this year saw more female nominations, 18 in total. Two of the five spots for artist of the year was held by Adele and Little Simz, while Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift were nominated in four of the five spots for international artist.

Many of the Brit nominees are also nominated in similar categories for the 2022 Grammys. Billy Eilish’s Happier Than Ever, Doja Cat featuring SZA’s Kiss Me More, and Lil Nas X’s Montero (Call Me By Your Name) were nominated in the Grammy’s record and song are vying for international song of the year at the Brits.

The winners of the four new genre categories at the 2022 Brit Awards– rock/alternative act, hip hop/grime/rap act, dance act, pop/R&B act – will be determined by a public vote via TikTok, which will open on Jan 21.

British comedian Mo Gilligan will present the awards on Feb 8 at the O2 Arena in London.
