Boss Mustapha apologises for COVID-19 protocols violations during Abba Kyari’s burial

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has apologised for violations of protocols during the burial of late Mallam Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to the President.

During the burial of Kyari in Abuja on Saturday, not only was the rule of social/physical distancing flouted, there was rampant misuse of personal protective equipment, PPE.

In fact, a video emerged showing one of the men who helped bury Kyari dump his protective clothing in public.

Speaking during the daily briefing by the task force, its Chairman, Mr. Boss Mustapha, who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, apologised for the violations.

Mustapha said it is regrettable that social distancing was not observed during the burial.

His words: “The PTF recognises, regrettably, the unintentional violation of the principles and protocols that form the core of our message to Nigerians at the funeral of the late Chief of Staff.

“These principles, for emphasis, include the guidance provided on mass gatherings, social distancing, personal hygiene, and restriction of movement. Lessons have been learned and appropriate measures have been taken to close all gaps.”

While apologising for the COVID-19 protocols violations, Mustapha also paid tribute to late Kyari.

He said: “Kyari was fully committed to ensuring Nigeria responded effectively to the challenge of COVID-19 and he died in the line of duty.

“We will always remember his robust efforts, his dedication, and unwavering commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to manage the impact of this pandemic.”
