“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” Teigen wrote in her Instagram post. “To our Jack – I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications…”
Celebrity cookbook author and TV personality Chrissy Teigen announced on social media late Thursday that she had lost her third son with singer husband John Legend. She opened up on social media about how she had experienced pregnancy complications which concluded in the demise of her child.
“Driving home from the hospital with no baby,” wrote Teigen on Twitter. “How can this be real.” Along with her post narrating the death of her baby, Teigen posted a photo of herself in black and white that depicted her sitting down on the hospital bed with her eyes closed as if in a praying position. She also posted another photo of herself holding the baby with Legend kissing her on the shoulder.
Numerous celebrities and prominent figures in society have recently opened up about pregnancy complications and loss. People like Michelle Obama, Celine Dion, Hugh Jackman, and Beyonce Knowles have all spoken publicly about this decreasingly taboo topic. These new narratives have really been picking up speed as numerous women all over the world have managed to connect with these real-life stories from stars. This is especially true in the United States wherein issues like family planning and abortion continue to incite divisive discourse among the general public.
Teigen was believed to be halfway through her pregnancy term when she lost her third son. She had let it slip to the public just last month that both she and Legend were expecting a boy. Earlier this week, she announced that she was hospitalized on Sunday to address bleeding that took place in her placenta. She also posted a photo of the blood transfusion pamphlet.
Teigen also noted that she and Legend had broken a rule for this particular child. She emphasized in her emotional post on social media that she and Legend made it a point to not name their children until they had left the hospital. They already have two kids, a daughter named Luna, 4, and a son named Miles, 2. However, they had already referred to this lost child as Jack.
“But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack,” she said in her post. “So he will always be Jack to us.” Teigen has a combined reach of more than 44 million people across her social media platforms.

We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before. We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough. . . We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital. But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever. . . To our Jack – I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you. . . Thank you to everyone who has been sending us positive energy, thoughts and prayers. We feel all of your love and truly appreciate you. . . We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience. But everyday can’t be full of sunshine. On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it.
The social media public has mourned the loss of the children together with the couple who reside in Los Angeles. Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are also very active personalities on social media aside from the stardom that they have earned through their professional careers. Teigen, in particular, is very active on Twitter and is known to be very blunt with her thoughts and opinions on various matters. She began her professional career as a swimsuit model for Sports Illustrated. As her career progressed along as a model, she dabbled into the world of cookbooks and TV shows. She is also a prominent fixture on the popular show Lip Sync Battle. These days, she is known by many for her unforgiving and candid stances on social media.

She most notably got into a public spat with United States President Donald Trump himself. Both Teigen and Legend engaged with POTUS who referred to Teigen as being “foul mouthed’ in a Tweet. Teigen fired back quickly together with her army of fans who were outraged at the conduct of Trump as a public servant and official. Both Teigen and Legend have been openly opposed to the agenda of the incumbent administration headed by Trump.
So many families suffer this kind of grief in silence. My heart breaks for these two, and I’m also in awe of their strength and their insistence on telling these tragic but all to common stories. https://t.co/WZXGGmrtAo

The loss of her child has prompted an outpouring of support from her fans and peers. John Legend reposted his wife’s Instagram post together with the caption, “We love you, Jack” with five black heart emojis. Coincidentally, the death of their child also coincides with Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month every October. True to their nature, the couple has convincingly raised more awareness and generated more discourse on the matter by opening up about their tragedy. The official twitter account for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc. tweeted, “We’re so sorry to hear that Chrissy Teigen and John Legend lost their son, and we admire them for sharing their story.” They also followed up their show of solidarity with another tweet emphasizing the relevance of the issue, “10-20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage. But even though miscarriage is common, it can be emotionally difficult. Feelings of grief and loss are normal after losing a pregnancy.”
