Is it ever too late to learn how to save your relationship? Well, it all depends. How deep is your love? Are you both willing to play “all out” and commit to finding solutions? If you aren’t ready to work “on” your relationship nothing will change. Learning how to save your relationship requires both of you being open to the possibilities and invested in figuring things out. If this sounds like this is where you are I encourage you to read on and take the first step to recapturing your love.
Here are a few ingredients that are essential to saving a relationship. I invite you to explore these with your loved one. Ready to jump in? Let’s go…
Save your relationship & say bye, bye to secrets
One of the first things that happens when things go bad in a relationship is you begin to keep a bunch of secrets. Stuff you just don’t share with your loved one. Your family, friends and co-workers become your confidants. This is a bad move. Keeping how you feel and think to yourself will only create more distance.
Save your relationship by saying what you feel
How can things change if you hold back your feelings? You may find you have become “numb” to how you feel. If you want to save your relationship it’s critically important that you share your feelings. For you to re-connect and feel those emotions you have to be open and vulnerable.
Save your relationship by feeling what you say
Sounds funny? How many times have you just rattled off a bunch of words and wished you could have taken them back? You were upset and didn’t care how the words you used may have affected your loved one. “Feeling” what you say means you consider the impact of your words as you express them. If the words you are about say close down conversation ask yourself how you express yourself differently. Consider how the other person will feel as you share your feelings. It will make a huge difference in the long run.
Authenticity will save your relationship
Yes, most importantly, be you! Don’t pretend everything is okay when it’s not. You are truly sharing your life with your loved one. Show you and all of your imperfections. No one is perfect. Accepting one another’s “flaws” is the key to a healthy relationship.
Compassion will help save your relationship
Are you showing compassion to your loved one? How do you show you care? What you say and do will create positive or negative feeling in your relationship. Connecting with his or her emotions and showing you care will make a difference. It feels great to know you are loved and the person you are with really cares about how you feel. Remember, you are in your relationship together. Compassion feels so good and plants some great seeds that will lead to a richer and more fulfilling relationship. Hugs are a great way to start of finish off a day!
