Why does sound drop out in Windows 10

Sound may be skipped due to incorrect driver settings. If the sound does not work when playing a media file, the system also displays an error message on the screen: “Audio device not installed.”

How to fix sound problem in Windows 10 using Device Manager

Right-click on the Windows Start menu </ bold> and select <bold> Device Manager . Then double-click the System Devices row and locate the Intel Smart Sound Technology (Intel SST) audio driver. There should be a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark here. Right click and select Properties to verify that the driver version is 09.21.00.3755 (problematic version). Then right-click the Intel Smart Sound Technology (Intel SST) device and select Update Driver .

Select Search for driver software on your computer . Then click Select from the list of available drivers on your computer . Select High Definition Audio Device and click Next . SST (<ital> System Maintenance Tools </ ital>) should work again. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

How to troubleshoot audio error on Windows 10 using the command line

In Cortana, enter cmd . Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator . Then copy and paste the following command:

pnputil / enum-drivers


A list of all installed drivers will appear. Find an audio driver such as oemXXXX.inf located under intcaudiobus.inf . This is the Intel audio driver you need. Then run the following command to remove the specified driver:

pnputil / delete-driver oemXXXX.inf / uninstall

Close the window and restart your computer.
