Resident Evil RE:Verse Hit With Huge Delay, Now Releasing In 2022

0

Resident Evil Village‘s standalone multiplayer component, RE:Verse, has suffered yet another release date delay, only this time, the wait will be far longer than a month or two.

Breaking the news over on Twitter, Capcom confirmed that the current July 2021 launch window for its all-star arena mode has been pushed back to a more distant (and vague) 2022. The huge setback means owners of Village hoping to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary year by way of playing as their favorite character(s) in an arena-style shooter will have to find other means of marking the occasion.

As for the reasons behind this unfortunate announcement, the series creator says this should ensure the team “can continue working to deliver a smooth gameplay experience,” with updated launch details promised to come at a later time.

Considering the shaky beta – which had to be pulled down mid-service to fix various server issues – held earlier this year, this development is unlikely to come as a surprise for many. Indeed, the consensus among fans on social media appears to be primarily apathetic in nature, with several responses suggesting that Capcom scrap the idea entirely and reinvest resources reserved for RE:Verse elsewhere.

Whatever the outcome, any physical owners of Resident Evil Village are encouraged to redeem their codes for the title as soon as possible to avoid instances of loss, though at this stage, we imagine interest in what has always been a side attraction to the former’s single-player campaign will likely be all but forgotten about by the time it finally begins service.

Will you be keeping tabs on RE:Verse over the next several months, or is this the final nail in the coffin? Let us know in the usual place below!
