Rivers govt gives nod as Port Harcourt hosts Int’l Jazz Festival
Rivers State Government on Thursday gave its backing as Jazz On My Mind, a global jazz music platform, features the best of jazz icons from around the world May 1 in the Port Harcourt for the annual International Jazz Festival.
The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim, endorsed the global jazz event on behalf of the government in Port Harcourt as he received a joint delegation of Jazz On My Mind and the Port Harcourt Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture in partnership to stage the event.
Nsirim told the organizers, “Coming on the heels of how passionate the Executive Governor, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, recently hosted the homecoming for Rivers born Grammy winner, Burna Boy, this International Jazz Festival in Port Harcourt further attests to the Governor’s commitment to promotion of the creative arts.
“Beyond that, the confidence among global jazz stars to converge in Rivers is an endorsement of the state, under Wike, as the enabling destination of choice and the Governor is making sure of that with massive infrastructures delivery and commitment to the security of lives and property.

“There is a spiritual impulse to Burna Boy winning the Grammy, and now a global Jazz Festival in Rivers. When the righteous rule, the Bible say, the people rejoice. Beyond the honours award, land and house gift to Burnaboy, every other artiste who performed at the homecoming has received the N10Million reward.
“The Governor understands how to build, encourage talents and the creative industry. With N10 million, those who want to develop their talents now have money to make progress. It’s going to spur them and others in the industry to work better.
“For the May Jazz Festival it is an endorsement that Rivers is open and safe for business with shared prosperity to protect among stakeholders. Our people are hospitable, we have the right leadership, two seaports, an international airport. We are good to host the world.”

Great jazz musicians and artists in Nigerian from around the world have graced previous editions. This year promises to be more explosive.”
